About Sandwich
Living in Sandwich
Sandwich is Cape Cod's oldest town, featuring stunning glasswork heritage, the Heritage Museums & Gardens, and tranquil Mill Pond reflections.
Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod, settled in 1637, and the first town you reach after crossing the Sagamore Bridge. It runs from the Cape Cod Canal and Cape Cod Bay inland to the ponds and pine woods of Forestdale.
The historic village around Shawme Pond has some of the oldest homes on the Cape, including the Hoxie House and the Dexter Grist Mill. East Sandwich offers bayside homes along Route 6A and the salt marsh, and Forestdale has newer neighborhoods on wooded lots near Snake Pond, Peters Pond and Lawrence Pond.
The Sandwich Glass Museum and Heritage Museums & Gardens anchor the town's cultural life, and the Sandwich Boardwalk crosses the marsh to Town Neck Beach. Its location right off Route 6 makes Sandwich one of the easiest Cape towns to commute from to Boston or the South Shore.
