About Cotuit
Living in Cotuit
Cotuit is a quintessential Cape Cod village prized for its artistic heritage, protected anchorage, and gracious historic homes set along serene tidal inlets.
Cotuit is the westernmost village of the town of Barnstable, set on a peninsula between Cotuit Bay, North Bay and Popponesset Bay. It is quieter and more residential than its neighbor Osterville, with a small village center on Main Street and a strong year-round community.
Much of Cotuit's housing is historic: sea captains' houses and antique Capes along Main Street and Ocean View Avenue, alongside shingled waterfront homes on the bays and newer homes on wooded lots inland. Many properties have water views, deeded beach rights or moorings close by.
Cotuit is known for its oysters, raised in Cotuit Bay for generations, and for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, who play at Lowell Park in summer. Loop Beach and Ropes Beach are the village's swimming beaches, Sampsons Island is a protected barrier beach reached by boat, and the Cahoon Museum of American Art sits on Route 28.
